This June the Naish N1SCO European Championships came to Swanage, Dorset. The weekend was great fun, with loads going on for competitors and spectators alike. The Naish N1SCO race series is a single design class, meaning that all competitors paddle the Naish N1SCO SUP, with races taking place around the world and competitors traveling a long way to compete, including one die-hard coming all the way from Tokyo!
The Naish N1SCO Inflatable SUP is the only iSUP allowed to compete in the N1SCO race series, creating a level playing field in order to find the best paddler, not the one with the fastest SUP! This inclusive event had races for those aged between 10 and 69, from first-time racers up to experienced competitors. Sprint, mid-distance and long distance races were all run on the Saturday, with the Saturday night being a great knees-up with tales of races told over free beer provided by event sponser Whitstable Bay.
Swanage is a coastal town on the stunning Isle of Purbeck in Dorset. This famous seaside town sits right by a sandy beach and enclosed bay, so it is absolutely perfect for SUP racing. The base for the weekend was The View restaurant, with racing taking place right outside the theatre with viewing possible from the beach and the esplanade. The action was great to watch! This SUP racing event was timed perfectly to tie in with the Swanage Fish Festival. Swanage comes alive with a focus on seafood, with a great array of stands, family activities and live music.
